At the conclusion of the final week of post-production, I feel I have a good grasp on what a career in the area would involve. We did some location sound in the final week of the intensive, learning how to operate a boom mic and how engineers record on a film shoot. We used handheld zoom recorders and a couple of other portable mixers/recorders, all offered different ways to mix and record. Operating the boom mic was tiring and not particularly interesting to me, but recording sound on a shoot is something I could see myself doing. We learned quite a few things about how a film shoot works, including the roles of everyone involved and the terms used to initiate a shot. I think film sound/post-production is definitely something I will consider as a career in the future, I enjoyed most parts of it and think the way the work would be structured would work for me.
